How to run Windows XP Mode without Hardware Virtualization in Windows 7

Windows 7 introduces the Windows XP Mode, a Windows XP setup in Virtual environment inside the Windows 7. At the time of release Windows XP Mode can be used only on PCs those have Hardware virtualization supported processors in them. But lately it was realized that for what purpose Windows XP Mode introduced is not fulfilling because currently most of the users don’t have Hardware Virtualization supported PCs as they are quite expensive or not in the knowledge of normal PC buyers.

To get rid of this issue, Microsoft some time back in last month released an Update to remove this restriction of Hardware Virtualization. After installing that update, Windows XP Mode can be used on PC which don’t have Hardware Virtualization supported processors.

This tutorial let you know how to use that update and install Windows XP Mode on a Non-Hardware Virtualized PC. Follow these simple steps to do so:

  1. First of all we have to install Windows XP Mode. Run setup of Windows XP Mode and follow the simple instructions to install it.xp1
  2. After installation of Windows XP Mode, now install the Windows Virtual PC in your PC. This enables to run Windows XP Mode in a virtual environment. It will install as an update in Windows 7.xp2
  3. Doing this is enough if you have a Hardware Virtualization supported PC but if you don’t have so, you’ll get this error when you try to run Windows XP Mode. xp3
  4. Now by installing the new update, you can easily say bye-bye to this error. Just install the update and now your PC is ready to run Windows XP Mode.xp6
  5. After the installation of update (KB977206), Run Windows XP Mode file from Windows Virtual PC available in All Programs in Start Menu. This will take some time to initialize and to ready the Windows XP Mode for the first use. 07-Apr-10 9-01-47 PM
