HP Envy 14 Spectre – Lightest and Slimmest Windows 7 Ultrabook in Review


This year Consumer Electronics Show 2012 has received the most positive comebacks from the various leading Windows Ultrabook manufacturers. One such manufacturer that ushered a premium ultrabook this year at CES 2012 is Hewlett-Packard (HP). HP showed off its latest Windows ultrabook, pitched as HP Envy 14 Spectre, a 0.78 inches thick laptop featuring a stylish midnight black glass design on the outer side and silver glass palm rest on the inside, and is considered to be more durable with the least weight added in it.

The new Windows ultrabook HP Envy 14 Spectre is path-breaking device by HP. It is the HP’s first multi-surface glass ultrabook designed with incredibly light weight, elegant, and durable features, surpassing  all the expectations.

HP Envy 14 Spectre Specifications

The HP Envy 14 Spectre comes powered with a quad-core second-generation Intel Core i7 processor. The processor is backed up by a mighty 4 GB RAM. This combination makes sure that the machine runs with supersonic speed.

In terms of its storage capacity, friends it has humongous 128GB mSATA SSD storage capacity. Moreover, if in case you even fall short of this much storage capacity, it allows you to add a second storage media, but that probably needs your pocket to be thick enough.

Envy 14 Spectre retains the family membership of Windows Operating, and is laden with the latest Windows 7 OS.

The screen size of the Envy 14 Spectre is 14-inches and the Radiance display offers, 1600 x 900 pixel resolution. It is really amazing to see Full HD display for the first time in an ultrabook. The screen of the laptop is extremely bright and clear, which promises to deliver high-quality visibility.

The laptop is intended very beautifully and despite comprehending miles of glass, it has retained the thin and light credentials in order to meet the Intel’s Ultrabook standards. The Envy 14 Spectre is packed with the dimensional measurements of 12.87 inch x 8.7 inch x 0.79 inch (WxDxH). The device is very light in weight as carries 3.9 pounds. It is packed in a way which makes it look gorgeous and as you cannot just have a look for once on it. It is packed in a 14-inch display in a 13.3-inch body which is quite impressive.

There is also USB 2.0, USB 3.0, SD card reader, Mini DisplayPort, headphone jack and Ethernet. As the Specture carries both a mini DisplayPort and HDMI port on the left side, you can connect two displays at once. HP TrueVision HD webcam is also available to support connectivity.

To connect with your dear ones, in the connectivity segment it offers 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and WiFi. The device features a backlit keyboard and save the battery power and the resources the keyboard is equipped with a proximity sensor that detects the presence of user and glows brighter and dims the backlit when a user leaves. The machine is packed with a long-lasting battery that lasts for 9 hours after a single electron charge.

The Envy 14 Spectre comes integrated with HP CoolSense technology adjusting the performance settings of the Ultrabook and HP ImagePad which streamlines multi-touch navigation on the trackpad.

As said it is exceptionally different from other ultrabooks, it come pre-loaded with full versions of some softwares like Adobe Photoshop  Elements 10, Adobe Premier Elements 10, etc.

So far you we have seen the near-field communications (NFC) technology in mobile phones, but for the first time in ultrabook you will get this as an exclusive feature in Envy 14 Spectre, which allows two compatible devices to share information simply by touching.

HP Envy 14 Spectre Price and Availability

The device would be made available in the States from 8th February for a price note of $1,399 (around £900). As for now there has been no official words on UK pricing and availability yet, but is expected soon.

The Verdict

The device is expected to deliver blistering performance that catches the speed on demand. Though the expectations goes beyond imagination, overall its look and feel is sophisticated, elegant and it’s add on outstanding screen will make watching movies a great fun.
