Nokia City Lens Beta for Lumia Windows Phone is now available to download

All tech companies are working hard to bring technology closer to the reality. Microsoft with Kinect, Google with its new glasses and now Nokia is also taking steps in this area of augmented reality in the digital world.

Nokia City Lens is an app based on augmented reality for Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone series. It is currently in its development but beta version is out for testing and feedback. If you have a Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 800 or Nokia Lumia 900, you can download it now from Nokia Beta Labs.

Nokia City Lens app provides a location based augmented reality service which helps you in pointing the places just by looking at the world around you through your smartphone camera.

With City Lens app, Nokia has integrated the digital maps with the real world. You just need to take your phone out and simply launch Nokia City Lens on your phone to easily find all the places you want to go. City Lens instantly reveals what you’re looking for on your phone’s camera display—no matter if it’s down the street or just around the corner.

It will instantly start showing what’s around you such as, landmarks, restaurants, hotels, shops and public transport stations visually right on your phone.

According to Nokia Beta Labs with Nokia City Lens app, you can do the following:

  • Nokia City Lens app comes with three different viewing modes. Locate your destination with camera view, list view, or maps view with landmarks, restaurants, hotels, shops and more.
  • Just tap on a particular spot to choose it and to gather information about it, simply tap to call for more info, read a review, or view detailed descriptions to learn everything you need to know before you go.
  • With just one tap on your phone, you can share your destination with friends via social networks, SMS, or email. Quickly spread the word of where you’ll be and how to quickly get there.
  • City Lens saves your recent searches so you can look up one of your last favorite spots in just seconds. It’s a great way to jog your memory and save time—all in an instant.

Though the app is currently in development process but it works like a charm. You can even contribute to enhance the functionality of the final version of the app by providing the regular feedbacks to the developer team.

You can also give feedback by answering the NPS questions in the app. If you would like to provide more detailed feedback, use the forum, located here on Beta Labs.
