How to Reset the Registry in Windows 10 Registry Editor

Microsoft Windows is the most customizable and tweakable operating system for computers. If you already did something or some malware just added some registries to the editor, then you might want to reset it to the default settings.

Steps to restore Registry Editor’s default settings

1. Locate the backup file which you created before editing the registry, the default locations where the backup file should be, are; My Documents, desktop or the root directory of C drive.
2. Now, double-click the file to open it and replace it with the edited registry values.
3. Click Yes on the UAC prompt; you will see a message with a warning, just click on Yes.
4. After that, you will see a confirming message stating that the registry has been successfully added to the registry.
5. Restart your PC now so the Windows can take effect according to the registry changes.

Method 2: For Multiple Registry files

If you want to restore lots of registry files, then you can do that by going to all of them one by one using the above method or try this.

1. Press Win+R to open Run, Type regedit and press Enter (confirm to UAC prompt).
2. Now click File then Import from the top menu of the registry editor window.
3. Select the registry file or files to import them and want to restore the value for.
4. You will be warned about the changes you are going to make, just click Yes and the registry file will get imported.

This method is easier than the first method of importing the files one by one to the reg editor. This will also take lesser time than before and don’t forget to restart your PC after every registry file import does to take effect.
